The American A.M. Best Co, the oldest and a highly respected rating institution specialising in the insurance business, awarded Tapiola General the rating A (Excellent). A.M. Best has rated Tapiola four times during 2006-2010 and the rating has been A (Excellent) on each occasion.
According to A.M. Best's press release, the excellent rating of Tapiola General was due especially to the company’s high solvency and strong risk-carrying capacity. In addition, Tapiola General has been able to absorb the impact of the financial crisis on its investment portfolio. The company has also been able to increase its surplus in line with the ongoing expansion of its business through improved profitability.
The rating is required in the insurance and banking business when demanded by the customer or cooperation partner. Regarding the brand and reputation, a good rating increases the reliability and appreciation.
The rating A (Excellent) by A.M. Best is e.g. equivalent to Standard & Poor’s rating AA (Very Strong) and Moody’s rating Aa (Excellent). Source: Swiss Re, Sigma No.4/ 2003
